Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) was known as “medieval aspirin” or the “aspirin” of the 18th century.
It is commonly used for its beneficial actions in the treatment and prevention of headaches and migraines. It reduces symptoms of pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and noise.
It can also be helpful to reduce histamine levels associated with allergies and conditions such as hayfever, asthma, dermatitis, urticaria and psoriasis.
Due to its emmenagogue actions, it stimulates blood flow in the pelvic area and uterus, stimulating menstruation in females.
As this herb has an anti-inflammatory effect, it can be beneficial in rheumatoid arthritis.
Fresh leaves (2 daily) can be chewed or it can be brewed as an infusion as a tea. It is a bitter herb which can be sweetened to be more palatable.
