These organic wheat-free rolled oats have been grown and processed in a dedicated mill to ensure the entire production chain remains free of contamination from gluten found in wheat, rye and barley. ‘Gluten tested oats’ just means that the oats have been batch tested for the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley and this was not detected within the limits of the test (<5ppm gluten).
The national food safety standard in Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) prohibits the use of a ‘gluten-free’ claim on oats and oat-containing products. In other parts of the world you are able to call oats ‘gluten-free’ if they are not contaminated with the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley but not here in Australia.
Studies show that pure (uncontaminated) oats are well tolerated by most people with coeliac disease. However, in some people with coeliac disease consuming oats or oat products can result in a potentially harmful immune response. Personally we have a friend who is coeliac & has no issue in consuming this product. This in no way endorses that we say this is safe for all coeliacs & you should seek health care professional advise before consuming these oats if unsure if these are ok for you.
